Week 2

Week one flew by and we accomplished many of our goals!

Thank you parents for all the help getting students organized and ready. Please remember to have your students planner signed EVERY morning. It is their ticket into the classroom.

This week we will continue to work on our Unit 1 Week 1 spelling words. A retake for the quiz will be on Friday. I will accept the higher of the two scores for your student's grade.

Mrs. Patterson and Miss Wolfe will be rotating for Social Studies and Science this week. Please look at your student's planner for assignments in those subjects.

Thanks again,

Mr. Helmer

Parents and students,

Welcome to Helmer' Howlers and 5th grade at Desert Palms. I am very excited to have your young student in our classroom this year. We are called Howlers because our mascot is the Coyote. Although I have taught many years at fifth grade, I know this will be your student's ONLY year in fifth grade, so we have plans to make the journey very special!

Howlers use technology in the classroom. We have a Smart Board and ten student computers. ALL of our major writing assignments will be composed on the computer. Students will have time to complete these assignments during school hours. You may complete them at home if you choose.

I teach writing to all fifth grade students, so as I leave the classroom during the week you will see the other 5th grade teachers when it is time for Science and Social Studies. Students are also required to compose and deliver two different speeches throughout the year.

Every Friday, a yellow folder will arrive home with school papers and student assignments that have been graded. Please return it empty WITH the reading log on Monday mornings.

We will have an exceptional experience this year as we are the BEST fifth grade class on campus!

Thank you,

Mr. John Helmer
